Lower Pelvic Issues Can Cause Back Pain

Sometimes back pain can be caused by issues in the lower pelvic region.  The sacroiliac joint (or SI joint)  is located at the base of your spine and transmits all the forces of the lower body to the pelvis (hips) and lower back. Inflammation and mobility issues in the SI joint and pelvic girdle can cause lower back pain that radiates throughout the pelvic region and can extend into the thighs.

The physical therapists at Body Balance can determine what has created the issue and work with you to:

  • Use hands-on manual therapy to improve movement in the lower back and        relieve sacroiliac pain.
  • Determine which muscles need stretching or strengthening and teach you the appropriate exercises to alleviate irritation.
  • Educate you on which day-to-day movements could be affecting your pelvic health and how to avoid them.
