Pre and Post Surgery Rehabilitation

Twin Falls Physical Therapist

Pre and post surgery physical therapy not only speeds up your recovery time, it also reduces the risk of re-injury.

Our goal for your rehabilitation is to give you individualized treatment that allows you to return to normal activities. We want to not only get you to pre-surgery levels of function but to get you better than pre-surgery.

Whether you would like to avoid surgery, are preparing for surgery, or have had surgery, let us shorten your road to recovery.

We can help you reduce your pain and increase your health.

Pre-Op/Pre-Surgery Orthopedic Rehabilitation

A study, published in the October 2006 volume of Arthritis Care & Research, at New England Baptist Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School found that knee- and hip-replacement surgery patients who had participated in therapeutic strength, aerobic, and flexibility training for just six weeks prior to their surgeries reduced their odds of needing inpatient rehabilitation by 73 percent.

Orthopedic surgeon, Hal Crane, MD, founding medical director of the Rose Institute for Joint Replacement in Denver said, “Pre-hab makes a huge difference in our patients’ outcomes.” “They get vertical sooner and recover faster.” (Arthritis Today, “Pre-hab for Surgery” by Terrie Heinrich Rizzo)

We agree with the study and with Dr. Crane. The benefits you can receive by coming to pre-surgery physical therapy here at Body Balance Physical Therapy are:

  • Better function and mobility before your surgery
  • A decreased need for inpatient rehab after surgery
  • Shorter recovery times
  • A head start on the therapeutic activities required after surgery
  • Stabilization of both pain and functional levels before surgery

The old adage “garbage in, garbage out” comes to mind. The better you are going into surgery, the better you will be coming out. While recovery and work will still be required, the road to recovery will be much shorter with good pre-surgery preparation.
